Recently, Sinosteel Equipment & Engineering Co., Ltd. (Sinosteel MECC), signed a 700,000 tons/year high-speed wire rod project EPC turnkey contract with Fujian Sangang Minguang Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Sangang Minguang").
5M Process + Modular Rolling Mill
Sinosteel MECC aims to create advanced high-speed wire using proprietary technology. According to the contract, the main product specifications of the high-speed wire rod project include Φ6.0mm to Φ20.0mm bright round bars and Φ6.0mm to Φ14.0mm threaded bars. Sinosteel MECC is responsible for constructing a new production line with an annual output of 700,000 tons, featuring internationally advanced technology and top-quality high-speed wire rod production. The project is scheduled to be completed in 330 days.
Sinosteel MECC will employ its independently developed "5M" rolling process technology and modular rolling mill to enhance product quality and yield while significantly reducing alloy additions and production costs. Through precise control of the temperature, deformation, rolling speed, and cooling rate of the entire production line, the steel grains become finer and more uniform, resulting in higher strength and superior performance.
In the high-speed zone, a new "6+2+4(2)" process layout is adopted. By using the RVM230/RVM150 modular precision rolling mill and reducing sizing units developed independently by China Steel Equipment, the dimensions of wire rod products are ensured to achieve high precision, enabling low-temperature rolling, single-hole type rolling, and free-spec rolling. The highest rolling speed can reach 110m/s.
The project enables low-cost production of HRB400E and HRB500E rebars with a significant reduction in alloy additions:
By adopting controlled rolling and controlled cooling processes, energy savings can be achieved, and the metallographic structure of the product can be improved, enhancing product quality.
Sinosteel MECC RVM Modular Rolling Mill
■ Developed specifically for the hot rolling process of high-wire and high-bar production
■ Low-temperature hot rolling, with rolling temperatures as low as 750°C
■ Maximum speed for high-wire is 120m/s, and for high-bar is 60m/s
■ Medium to low voltage motor drive, low voltage power supply, low electrical investment cost
■ Short drive chain design, lower drive energy consumption, and no-load power
■ Flexible hole type design for different steel grades, with minimal roll ring preparation, requiring only paired replacements
The project will also incorporate a series of intelligent technologies, providing efficient support for the intelligent production and maintenance of the production line. This includes equipment online monitoring, automatic visual recognition of stacked steel, gantry cranes, unmanned vehicles, etc., further enhancing production line efficiency. The online monitoring system will enable online equipment diagnosis and intelligent inspections. The centralized control center will allow real-time monitoring of all data for the entire rolling line, and the rolling line will have functions such as steel billet identification, key process temperature measurement, and data collection for operations like before entering the furnace, rolling, cutting, etc., through visual recognition.
Sangang Minguang is an important partner of Sinosteel MECC, and the two parties have engaged in multiple friendly collaborations in areas such as sintering, belt-type sintering machine pelletizing, long product rolling, energy conservation, and environmental protection, establishing a deep friendship. The projects, including the 2 million tons/year belt-type sintering machine pelletizing project and the 1.3 million tons/year high-bar upgrading and renovation project, constructed by Sinosteel MECC using proprietary technology and equipment on EPC basis, have maintained stable and efficient operation. The belt-type sintering machine pelletizing project received honors such as the National Metallurgical Industry Engineering Design and Engineering Quality Excellence Award and is recognized as a landmark project for environmental upgrading in Fujian Province, featured on CCTV's "Xinwen Lianbo" (News Broadcast).
