On March 20, 2021, Sinosteel Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd. (Sinosteel E&T) and HBIS Xuanhua Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Xuansteel) signed contract of hydrogen energy development and utilization project at a green and low carbon strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Beijing.
The partners will study to build the world’s first showpiece hydrogen metallurgical project, which will also be China’s green and low carbon steel upgrade benchmark, in Zhangjiakou city, Hebei Province. With the strategic cooperation in place, Sinosteel E&T will contribute its outstanding strengths in technology and whole-process integration to start the world’s first hydrogen energy project using hydrogen-rich gas, expecting to cut carbon emission by 60% annually.
Zhangjiakou is China’s first and only national-level renewable energy demonstration zone, and has abundant renewable sources including wind and solar energy. The partners will take the advantages to explore zero-carbon development for the hydrogen energy industry, including renewable hydrogen, hydrogen energy utilization, as well as low carbon and zero carbon hydrogen technology.
Sinosteel Wuhan Safety and Environmental Protection Research Institute Co., Ltd. (Sinosteel SEPRI), a subsidiary of Sinosteel E&T will provide carbon asset management and consulting for Xuansteel to support its carbon emission reduction, carbon audit and carbon emission trading.
As member of one of the world’s largest steel producers HBIS, Xuansteel has always been dedicated to low carbon reformation and green development. Sinosteel E&T will jointly develop zero carbon technology supplemented by CCUS and carbon consulting to lead the technological revolution and green development and achieve carbon peak and neutrality of steel industry.
