Advanced Technology, Green and Environmental Protection

Previously, Sinosteel MECC successfully constructed Tosyali's first regrinding and reselection plant, as well as the travelling grate pellet plant. The 4 million tons pellet plant, operational for nearly 5 years, continues to supply pellet raw materials for DRI. The 4 million tons regrinding and reselection plant maintains efficient operation, achieving an iron concentrate grade of over 69%, ensuring the pellet product grade is ≥67%. Based on the success of this collaboration, Tosyali extended their partnership, signing a comprehensive project agreement in October 2022 with Sinosteel MECC for an equivalent-scale project. Sinosteel MECC will handle the EPC for a new 4 million tons regrinding and reselection plant, a 4 million tons travelling grate pellet plant, as well as the raw material yard and transportation system. Both projects share a timeline of 24 months.

Leveraging the success of their collaboration, Sinosteel MECC strategically planned and optimized processes, utilizing cutting-edge technology and equipment:

Algeria 4 Million Tons Regrinding and Reselection Plant: Adopts advanced membrane pressure filtration technology, allowing direct grinding of coarse-grain, high-grade hematite, and fine grinding and magnetic separation of low-grade magnetic ore to enhance its grade. The final product is DRI-grade pellet fine powder.

The deep processing capabilities of the project will ensure stable operations for pellets and DRI. Additionally, due to reduced silicon content, it will effectively avoid difficulties in impurity removal during subsequent ironmaking processes, reduce slag volume, and achieve energy savings.

Algeria 4 Million Tons Travelling Grate Pellet Plant: Incorporates Sinosteel MECC's independently developed advanced travelling grate pellet technology, equipped with international advanced BIM360, CFD numerical simulation, and digital delivery technology. As an alternative to sintered ore, travelling grate pellets have significant advantages in reducing pre-iron pollution emissions and lowering carbon dioxide emissions. The project's process energy consumption during full magnetite production is less than 18 kgce/t, achieving nearly a 10% reduction in carbon before iron.

With Sinosteel MECC's digital design and delivery capabilities, along with the travelling grate pellet EPC+O+M digital ecosystem, the project will integrate planning for the regrinding and reselection plant, travelling grate pellet plant, and raw material yard. Utilizing automation and intelligent technology will enable automated control and information management of the production process, further enhancing production efficiency and product quality.

Strengthening the Bonds of Collaboration:

On April 25, 2023, the groundbreaking ceremonies for both projects were successfully held on-site. In his address, a Tosyali representative stated, "Sinosteel MECC is a friendly partner of Tosyali, having successfully built many projects for Tosyali, equipping our steel mills with the latest technology, advanced equipment, and producing high-quality products at the best production cost and minimal energy consumption. Based on the mutual trust we have built over the years, we have opened new cooperation for the fourth-phase short-process integrated steel plant. The commencement of the regrinding and reselection plant and the travelling grate pellet plant today will further strengthen the bonds of our collaboration. I believe that, with our joint efforts, we will be able to deliver the project on time. Best wishes for the smooth construction of the project, and good luck to every member of the project!"

The project team leader from Sinosteel MECC stated, "As a steadfast implementer of the 'Belt and Road' initiative, Sinosteel MECC has established stable cooperation with Tosyali, contributing to the economic development and infrastructure construction of Algeria. In this process, in our mutual trust and support, we have gained a deeper understanding of each other's cultures and customs. Today, we embark on a new construction journey together to create achievements beyond expectations!"
