On February 15, 2022, Sinosteel E&T signed the equipment supply contract of Baosteel Zhanjiang's million-ton hydrogen-based shaft furnace project, and participated in the concurrently held ground-breaking ceremony.
Zhanjiang Steelworks is imbued with the mission of building an efficient green carbon steel manufacturing base. It is committed to green manufacturing, actively exploring new areas of low-carbon metallurgy. The shaft furnace can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 500,000 tons/year if compared with those emitted by a traditional blast-furnace-based iron making facility of similar capacity.
The project will build China's first self-integrated shaft furnace, and the world's first shaft furnace that directly adds hydrogen for the reduction process, it is expected to enhance Baowu's emissions reduction competitiveness, and marks a solid step toward the company's target of achieving carbon reduction by 30% by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
