On November 22, 2006, the Stainless Steel Making Renovation Project engineered by SINOSTEEL MECC just underwent successfully its hot commissioning test for the whole line of No.2 Steel Plant of Tianjin Pipe (Group) Corporation (TPCO). Using the melted alloy from rated 30t intermediate frequency furnace and the preliminary liquid steel out of rated 100t ultra high frequency EAF to produce 90t quality stainless liquid steel in 100t LF and 100t VOD by adjusting the liquid steel temperature and composition, and then through 6-strand arch round billet caster to successfully produce Φ210mm round stainless billets. After retarded cooling treatment and metallographic test and analysis, the product is found to have both surface and internal soundness in terms of quality. So the commissioning test for the whole production line is proved to be a complete success.

The success not only filled the gap of Tienjian metallurgical industry incapable of producing round stainless steel billet with continuous casters, but also paved the way for SINOSTEEL MECC to further explore the stainless engineering market both domestic and international.
